In essence, each of us possesses two sets of traits:
Those we embrace and are content to include in our self-identity (ego).
Those we disown or feel uneasy about incorporating into our self-identity (shadow).
Our self-identity, or ego, is merely a construct within our minds that we recognize as 'us.' It's not the entirety of who we are or our true essence.
The shadow self comprises what remains beyond our ego's construct of ourselves.
You might see yourself as "outgoing" but avoid admitting any traits of "introversion." Here, "outgoing" forms your self-identity, while "introversion" resides in your shadow-self. Embracing both aspects can lead to a more genuine and harmonious self-awareness.
However, it's only by ceasing to reject our shadow-self and embracing it that we can experience heightened self-esteem and a deeper connection with our complete selves.
